Small but so dangerous

There are two types of termites. We talk about the under ground termite and dry wood termites. The first type of termite lives underground, as its name suggests. The second can be installed in any type of dry wood, except for certain types of exotic woods.

Like ants, termites are social insects. Their shape determines their morphological task. Much of the colony is formed by the worker termites (80% to 90%). 5-10% is termite soldier, the rest of the colony consists of larvae, nymphs, breeding adults, queen and king.

Termites are lucifugous, that is to say they are sensitive to light. It is for this reason that we rarely see them on the surface. Although we hear more than someone saying "good", their presence always ends manifest itself one way or another sooner or later.

Their living conditions require a certain temperature, humidity and oxygen specific, and a composition of the air and the presence of dry wood. If any of these features is not present or ideal, we say that termites are able to create them in the tunnels they dig.

In nature, nests are usually underground, although we can also observe nests 'secondary' in trees, on poles, or even at home. These 'secondary nests' are temporary stations on the way workers in search of wood.

Why do they like while termites as the wood? Cellulose is their main food. The workers, who are responsible for damage to homes, wood swallow, digest and regurgitate the cellulose.

But it's not just wood. Paper and / or cardboard can also form a part of their diet, because cellulose is the main element. Moreover, they also feed on cotton or sawdust. And that is a few things that can be found at home ...

In France we find the insect on the side of the Atlantic, and in the Paris region. Dry wood termites are also seen in the Southwest and in the south.

The result of their presence in our homes can be devastating. They have already forced many people to change their whole floors - rather expensive operation - or of having to return valuable furniture to dump trash. As the frame is also made of wood, this pest is dangerous able to endanger the stability of our homes.

How to get rid of it? There are different solutions against termites in the market, although the safest way is to contact a box that specializes in the extermination of pests such as termites are.
